If I killed the second one, I'd like to take a peek at the fungus...

The second spider falls to a crossbow bolt as well.Gimil takes a closer look at the fungus and sees that it's pulsing, almost beating like a heart. As he gets closer, he can feel the tree crying out for help.
There is something wrong with this forest...

Not surprised...
I'll head north towards the center of the forest again--

You see the ground has buckled in spots, with large cracks spreading out to the west.

Well, I have no idea what that means. Earthquake recently? So I'm going to keep heading towards the center and avoid falling in any cracks... Maybe I can figure out the source of the cracks there.
East--

You can feel the center of the forest calling out to you in pain. The screams of the forest are starting to get unmanageable. You see deeper fissures in the ground and more fungus on the trees...

I'll keep heading towards the center of the forest but I want to pause and see if I can use the fungus for poisoning my crossbow bolts? Looks poisonous enough. I'll use my check for poison spell to see if it's poisonous and then attempt to make a poison with it.
Then, I'll walk north towards the center of the forest.

You effectively coat 5 bolts with the poisonous ooze, but were unable to determine the effects of the poison.
You walk further into the forest and find yourself in the center of the forest. The giant tree in the center is covered in welts and fissures with the poisonous fungus growing on it. Fissures in the land allow you to see that the trees roots are being attacked as well.
2 rabid wolves with red eyes turn on you.

The rabid wolf falls to your poisonous bolt, convulsing as it does. The giant fungal growth on the tree spews out and engulfs the second wolf. A large mossy terror stand in front of you.
